I was not in class today

2/25

Today in class we had a very big discussion. We first discussed some review notes about Hammurabi's code for our test tomorrow. There are 282 laws in Hammurabi's code which is quite a lot back then in my opinion but you gotta do what ya gotta do. Then we got into a giant conversation about Mr. Schick's acting career and all the movies roles he got and why the heck he started teaching instead. We found out that he had done movies with Kevin Bacon and Steven Sigual. I also found out today that Signal is a real jerk as well and hardly ever did his own stunts. Mr. Schick also was going to be in a movie with Harrison Ford but he didn't get the part and instead gave it to a guy who caused an accident on set. They picked the wrong guy.

Today is class we did more activities involving Hammurabi's code. We did an activity where we have a set of laws that have been broken by a made up character. We have to come up with a punishment (our groups) and share it with the class. After that we had to write down the actual consequences for those laws being broken back with Hammurabi's code. The codes back then were so brutal and violent and also super unnecessary. If someone accidentally labeled someone as a slave, they would get their hands chopped off. Even if it was an accident. Some of the kids had some very harsh punishments that they came up with. Someone said 10 years in jail for a construction worker building a house, and then later it falling on the family and killing them. It was described as an accident and they said 10 years in prison. Ridiculous.

Today in class we took notes on the Fertile crescent again and how their civilization functioned. Jordan, Syria, Israel and Iraq are the countries there today where the Fertile Crescent was. They developed the earliest form of writing called cuneiform. The people of Mesopotamia had religious views favoring pantheons. Women started to decline with duties and jobs simply because they were the only one who can feed the babies at least while their very young. Ziggurat's are the Sumerian temples built on top of a mountain of earth so they can praise all of their gods. The population increased drastically so Kings started to emerge and made laws and consequences.

Today in class we took more notes about Mesopotamia. We talked about Hammurabi's code and the how they built the towns. It flooded every year because they were near two rivers and it rained a lot at a certain time of year. Because of that they built canals and under ground tunnels to allow the water to flow back to the rivers. They also built walls out of mud so the towns wouldn't flood as easily. We discussed that if you committed a crime and couldn't pay for it then you would be put to death. If you stole a pig you would have to pay 30 times that or you would be executed and we didn't think that was very fair. Nowadays the laws are a lot less brutal and humane. We learned the name Mesopotamia meant the land between two rivers. Also known as the Fertile Crescent. The Euphrates and Tigris were the rivers. Ham and Evan wanted some more bread and Mr. Schick explained that he didn't and if he did it would most likely be stale. Riley was absent today as well and Stefan ...

Today in class today we took a test. I think I did fine even though I didn't know much. I studied for it a little bit but I probably could've studied more for it. It was out of 100 points which is a lot of points especially for a test without tons and tons of questions. We talked about his daughter a little and what her first tattoo was. I came in just in time for class too. I barley made it before the bell. I didn't have my tie tied or my shirt tucked in or my sports jacket on. Luckily once class started I got ready and now I am looking spiffy. Now we get to sit here and do our blog on our laptops and once were done that we can do more of our work.
