Today in class we took more notes about Mesopotamia. We talked about Hammurabi's code and the how they built the towns. It flooded every year because they were near two rivers and it rained a lot at a certain time of year. Because of that they built canals and under ground tunnels to allow the water to flow back to the rivers. They also built walls out of mud so the towns wouldn't flood as easily. We discussed that if you committed a crime and couldn't pay for it then you would be put to death. If you stole a pig you would have to pay 30 times that or you would be executed and we didn't think that was very fair. Nowadays the laws are a lot less brutal and humane. We learned the name Mesopotamia meant the land between two rivers. Also known as the Fertile Crescent. The Euphrates and Tigris were the rivers. Ham and Evan wanted some more bread and Mr. Schick explained that he didn't and if he did it would most likely be stale. Riley was absent today as well and Stefan strolled in late as usual without a care in the world
